Thou shall fear only the lord

with whom the LORD had made a covenant, and charged them, saying, Ye shall not fear other gods, nor bow yourselves to them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice to them

2Ki 17:35

Not fearing other Gods is actually a command from the Lord. If you trace back the word gods in Hebrew, it's root goes from Elohim -> Eloah -> El

El means strength, might, power

The above verse can be effectively rendered as 'you shall not fear any other power'. This power could be a literal demon spirit, sickness, weakness, financial lack, habits etc.

If we would take to heart this command and set our heart not to fear (give credence to) anything else but to fear (reverence, adoration, honor and trust) the Lord ALONE. It would put us in a position to receive miracles from God.

Half the time we already fear the things coming against us so much that we don't even take it to God in prayer.

Bowing, serving and sacrificing to these situations only comes once you start fearing them. But if you would fear the Lord, He will cause the other gods to bow down before you.

Eg: if someone has cancer, they are very fearful and conscious of the power of cancer to afflict them and kill them; but they are not fearing and holding in honor Christ the Healer who took stripes on His back and has provided healing already. If they would not fear cancer and fear the Lord, they can be set free. Jehovah Rapha is more powerful than cancer.
